Columbus sailed to the Americas in 1492. Columbus's arrival brought European culture to the Americas. Columbus arrived in the Caribbean islands. Since Columbus was sent by Spain, these islands were claimed by the Spanish. Spanish culture was then seen in the language, food, religion and other elements of culture. Spain went on to claim many other areas in the Americas and continue to spread their culture.
